Name: Carol Stork
Your Organization’s Name: Troy Furniture
What called you to your work?
It’s hard to say. My husband is a carpenter we enjoyed remodeling and decorating our homes. We remodeled two and built two. We have been in our current home twenty years and are in the midst of remodeling it.
Here’s a little background on me. I graduated high school and started Cosmetology school six days after graduating. Five years into it I realized I enjoyed my part-time job as a silk florist more, so I switched to that.
We were married nine years when we had our first child (we have two). I stayed home for a few years then started waitressing evenings so we didn’t we have to use daycare. When they were in high school I returned to silk florals and home decor.
In the fall of 2016, I heard Troy Furniture was hiring! I thought, “Yes this is it! ” I couldn’t be happier!
Who in the community do you look up to? Do you have a role model?
I honestly would have to say the LBB group as a whole. As you can see I do not have a college degree, and have little experience in the professional business. You all have held my hand and helped me grow as a person. I take something away from EVERY meeting I have been too! Just introducing myself at every meeting is a step outside my comfort zone. Thank you so much!
What product/service do you offer?
I can help you “just buy a couch” or help you decorate your home. I can help choose your furniture, area rug, accent tables and lamps and accessories.
We also sell Serta mattresses, G.E. appliances, and Speed Queen washers & dryers.
What makes your business unique?
Troy Furniture is a family business.
They are very charitable within our community. The people I work with and for are more like family. They truly care about their employees and customers.
To be honest I don’t like salespeople! Lol. When I shop I want to be left alone until I need help. I think a lot of people are like this. I let the customer know our sale and let them know we can be price conscious or get the best quality lasting furniture. I do not want to be pushy. You are going to have your furniture years to come and I want you to love it. Please take your time deciding what you want. You can also check out fabrics to see what looks best in your lighting and with your walls and floor.
What is the nicest thing a customer has ever said to you about your products/service?
They love it of course! I have had several people tell me they appreciate the time they are given to decide what they truly want.
When you are not working, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Last year Greg and I got paddle boards! They are so much fun! I am going to be experimenting with yoga on it this summer. Since I currently do not do yoga I think I’ll be in the water a lot. Lol. If anyone likes paddle boarding or kayaking contact me I would love to get together. They rent them at Cuivre River State Park. We also like to ride our motorcycle on the many back rounds in our area.
My son Kyle and I enjoy playing paintball together. It’s really fun! It’s interesting explaining my bruises though.
My daughter Ciara is 19 she’s a young adult now. It’s nice that we are more friends now and really just like hanging with each other.
